Brief Description

The module provides the student with the opportunity to gain an advanced theoretical and practical understanding of working effectively with clients as an applied sport and exercise scientist. The underpinning theoretical knowledge, ethical practices and practical skills will be critically examined, evaluated and applied within this context.

Indicative Syllabus

The module will examine:

  1. The applied skills required for assessment, monitoring and development of sport or exercise clients;
  2. the appropriateness, limitations, validity and reliability of sport and exercise assessment techniques;
  3. the theoretical models and approaches used by the sport or exercise practitioner to enhance professional practice;
  4. professional practices for the sport and exercise scientist that ensure ethical working conventions.
Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of the module the student should be able to:

  1. Critically analyse and apply the appropriate skills and knowledge for the valid assessment, monitoring and development of the sport or exercise client;
  2. synthesise and apply the theoretical models and approaches used by the sport or exercise practitioner for enhanced professional practice;
  3. critically evaluate and apply the professional and ethical practices of the sport and exercise practitioner;
  4. critically analyse and employ models of reflective practice that facilitate professional development of the sport and exercise practitioner;
  5. engage confidently, autonomously and competently in academic and professional communication with others.
