Brief Description This module will prepare students for working with business clients and intra-institutional personnel of different faiths. It will enable them to meet employers’ needs for personnel who are knowledgeable of, and sensitive to, the religious sensibilities, values and practices of clients here and abroad. By introducing religious business ethics, the module will also develop students’ ethical competences for working in culturally and religiously plural businesses and professions.
Indicative Syllabus This module will explore Islamic, Christian and Jewish attitudes to their own and wider social and professional communities. After an introductory examination of the multifaith, plural working environment in the UK, the module will examine issues affecting both employees and clients such as adherence to specific dietary laws, understanding of the social hierarchy, and different approaches to bereavement in the major faith communities. Religious laws and attitudes relating to work and rest and wealth and the ethical issues arising from its production will also be analysed.
