Brief Description This module will survey key ways in which moral and ethical questions have been approached.
Indicative Syllabus Building on the philosophical and ethical work done at Level I, this course will examine in more depth various ethical traditions in both western philosophy and religion. This could include Nietzsche’s understanding of morality, feminist perspectives on  women’s moral agency, and Christian (such as Communitarianism) and Muslim (such as jihad) ethics.
Learning Outcomes

i. Knowledge and Understanding
By the end of the module students should be able to demonstrate that they:
a) have understood a range of the ways in which ethical questions can be answered
b) can critically assess the strengths and weaknesses of how ethical traditions approach specific issues
c) can effectively deploy specialist vocabularies



ii. Skills
On completion of the module students should be able to demonstrate that they:
a) can identify and critique the arguments and approaches of key ethical traditions and thinkers
b) are able to present critical and coherent assessments of ethical positions across a range of traditions
c) can reflect on their own behaviour in the context of their studies.
