Brief Description

The aims of the module are to:
1        explore contemporary and historical understandings of mission
2        investigate current contexts for mission including case studies of contextual mission including youth ministry and fresh expressions of church
3        examine methods in contextual mission and the development of mission strategy
4        study communication of the gospel contextually

Indicative Syllabus This module explores a variety of approaches to mission, develops skills in contextual analysis and the identification of appropriate mission strategies
Learning Outcomes

At the end of the module, students will be able to:

Knowledge and Understanding
a)       demonstrate insight into different understandings of mission and their relevance to a specific context
b)       critically evaluate their own context and identify issues to address in developing mission strategy and fresh expressions of church
c)       critically analyse methods and models of contextual mission and apply this learning to their own context

Skills
d)       identify and develop appropriate ways of communicating the gospel in context

Staff / student contact: 10% (lectures, seminars, role play, exercises, simulations)
Student directed learning: 90%
