Brief Description

The aims of the module are to:
1        promote understanding and use of doctrine in reflective practice and theological reflection
2        explore one key doctrine or aspect of doctrine in greater depth including the understanding from a range of key thinkers and theological paradigms
3        analyse how the student’s understanding of this doctrine shapes and is shaped by practice

Indicative Syllabus This module will identify approaches to the study of doctrine focusing on a particular doctrine or theme, exploring and analysing it from a range of key thinkers, theological paradigms and the experience of the student.
Learning Outcomes

At the end of the module, students will be able to:

Knowledge and Understanding
a)       describe and critically evaluate the contribution of an area of doctrine to their understanding of their practice
b)       understand and analyse a range of perspectives on one particular doctrine
c)       evaluate the work and influence of key thinkers in the area

Skills
d)       use doctrine in the process of reflective practice and theological reflection

Staff / student contact: 10% (lectures, seminars, role play, exercises, simulations)
Student directed learning: 90%
