Brief Description

The aims of the module are to:
1        understand dominant theories in relation to human development (personal, social and spiritual)
2        explore key issues in human development (personal, social and spiritual)
3        develop a theology of the person and of groups
4        consider the responses of informal education to learning and development needs
5        examine a range of professional and ministerial interventions to support human development (personal, social and spiritual)
Indicative Syllabus This module will explore ways of understanding and supporting the personal, social and spiritual development of young people and adults. Approaches from informal education will be examined in relation to responses to learning needs and, a range of appropriate intervention strategies and tools will be considered.
Learning Outcomes

At the end of the module students will be able to:

Knowledge and Understanding
a)       understand and analyse a range of theories of human development (personal, social and spiritual)
b)       describe and critically evaluate the impact of contemporary issues on human development (personal, social and spiritual)
Disciplinary / Professional Skills
c)       use a theology of personhood and groups to inform practice in relation to supporting human development (personal, social and spiritual)
d)       identify and respond to learning and development needs

Transferable Skills
e)       plan, implement and critically evaluate interventions to support human development (personal, social and spiritual)
Learning and Teaching Activities

Staff / student contact: 10% (lectures, seminars, role play, exercises, simulations)
Student directed learning: 90%
