Brief Description The module covers four key areas: children and adolescents; adult mental health; the elderly; and learning disability. Practising clinical psychologists also contribute to lectures.
Indicative Syllabus Diagnosis and classification of mental health disorders
Theories, models and interventions
Anxiety and Neroses
Eating disorders
PTSD
Mood disorders and depression
Schizophrenia and Psychoses
Ageing and Alzheimers
Learning Outcomes i. Knowledge and Understanding

By the end of the module, students should be:
a) able to understand the application of the principles of clinical psychology across the lifespan
b) familiar with both assessment and treatment approaches appropriate for a variety of behavioural and/or emotional problems
c) able to define the role of the clinical psychologist across a variety of settings



ii. Skills

By the end of the module, students should be able to:
a) describe and design - in principle - a variety of treatment interventions for a range of behaviour problems (e.g. phobias, post-traumatic stress, challenging behaviour)
b) define the role of assessment and/or therapeutic intervention techniques when used by the clinical psychologist
