Brief Description

This module aims to ensure students  utilise their employability fully by enabling them to understand, reflect on and market their skills effectively, and be able to articulate these skills in a professional manor to others including potential employers.

Indicative Syllabus

This module is designed for students who are in employment work at management level.  The module enables students to reflect on and evaluate their employability leading to a full appreciation of the range of transferable skills they have to offer an employer.  The module will enable students to gain academic credit in the workplace.  The module will be assessed by course work and there will be workshops to facilitate learning.

Learning Outcomes On successful completion of this module students should be able to demonstrate:-

i. Knowledge and Understanding
1) A systematic understanding of the organisation and industry in which they work and the national/international market in which it operates. They will have a detailed understanding of all the key stakeholders, the services/products offered for sale and a comprehensive understanding of new techniques and current issues relating to that industry.
2)  A detailed and in depth understanding of their role and how they fit within the organisational structure. Originality in the application of knowledge, together with a practical understanding of the ‘business’.
3) The ability to demonstrate both verbally and in writing the importance of evaluating and reviewing their role within the organisation.
4) Ability to identify opportunities which match their interests, skills, personal qualities and career aims.
5) The ability to refer to current thinking on the labour market with reference to particular areas of research.

Learning and Teaching Activities

Tutorial support 30%
Independent study 70%, including time for the development of the learning contract, preparation of assessment, and workplace-based study.
