Indicative Syllabus Students are required to undertake a project and/or placement with an explicit link to the professional, working environment related to their discipline area. The nature and scope of the project and/or placement should be negotiated with the module tutor leading to the production of a Learning Contract prior to the commencement of the project or placement. The project and/or placement must have a direct link with the world of work in that it should involve an external client, business, organisation, funding body, gallery or exhibition venue etc. or have a direct association with the career aspirations or preparation for employment of the student.

Examples of appropriate projects include:
1) The undertaking of a commissioned piece of art, design or media work with a real client

2) The organisation and mounting of a group or solo exhibition. The scope of such an exhibition could vary considerably in term of the number of exhibitors, location of gallery/venue, the need for publicity material, private view, budget, fund raising, catalogue etc. but should involve negotiation with external individuals, businesses or organisations

This could include the design and production of a digital portfolio for promotion on the web or CD/DVD or as a showreel, the design and production of personal freelance or new business/corporate identity material and a business plan

4) The negotiation, organization and undertaking of a period of work placement in an organization, business or with a freelance designer, illustrator, photographer appropriate to the career aspirations of the student.

b) have a comprehensive understanding of employment opportunities and/or business practices within the creative industries as appropriate to their own discipline area.
