Brief Description | This practical module provides the opportunity to propose, and undertake a major body of photographic work demonstrating an authority, maturity and accomplishment appropriate at this advanced level of study. The finished body of work should achieve a thematic consistency and demonstrate a synthesis of knowledge, experience, and research skills. Submissions may, for example, comprise a portfolio of photo stories or a single extended piece of reportage. |
Indicative Syllabus | This double module provides the photojournalist with the opportunity to realise a major body of work prior to graduation. The module provides freedom to shape a personal portfolio of work with time to revisit and expand on a story/stories.
The student may continue to pursue a themed story developing further depth, adding maturity to their portfolio or perhaps consolidating a portfolio of images to demonstrate a breadth of achievement, interest and expertise in their area of specialisation. A learning agreement is developed and negotiated with your module tutor and identifies core descriptors for the individual project, it should consider aims and objectives, content, timescale, preliminary shoots, audience and the methodology for the eventual presentation of the work produced. Students should develop a coherent body of work, which is regarded as the resolution of issues identified and tested through previous levels and stages of their studies. The final presentation of practical work should be accompanied by the learning agreement and research material(s) created during planning and completion of the photographic project(s), and also a reflective written evaluation and contextualisation of the final work submitted. Any proposed collaborative work with other media industry professionals or students, such as the print journalists or design students, should have been discussed and the scope of assessable work agreed with tutor(s) during the development stages of the project(s). There will not be a group mark for work on this module. Collaboration is not discouraged as long as the proposal clearly identifies individual contributions and makes it appropriate and equally valid for those involved; to avoid jeopardising a fellow student’s progression any collaborative proposal should be thoroughlydiscussed with relevant tutors in advance of any work commencing. Presentation of the work will need to be fully considered and may encompass an exhibition, publication, web site, etc. |
