Brief Description A series of 'real world' assignment briefs in rapid succession that introduce and develop key technical and creative approaches to photography.
Indicative Syllabus

Problem solving and planning for photographic assignments. Introduction and analysis of the practice of leading contemporary and historic photographers.  Further development of creative ideas generation and brief solving. Further development of studio and location lighting techniques. Introductory workshops for using large format, comparative camera formats for practical application and creative approaches, reviewing media industry demands and presentation strategies for photographic work, producing and editing Digital Video.

Learning Outcomes

i. Knowledge and Understanding

At the end of the module students should be able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of:a) the range of potential approaches to the production of images for Documentary and Photojournalism;

b) the aesthetic relationship of text and layout when allied to photographic images;

c) an overview and analysis of the work of key practitioners;

d) the use of critical analysis to make informed judgments and opinions of their own and other's work;

e) the range of options and commercial outlets for their style of photography;

f)  Digital Video and 'Podcasts';

g) the ethical and legal problems of working within the public domain;

h) undertaking and implementing a risk assessment and observing professional standards health and safety.

ii. Skills

At the end of the module students should be able to demonstrate skills in:

a) creative thinking, ideas generation and brief solving - conceptual skills to meet a defined brief to a professional standard;

b) working within the precise parameters of 'the brief' in terms of content, layout, style and technical competence;

c) organising and structuring schedules; time management and delivery of work to deadline in a manner commensurate with contemporary professional practice;

d) working within the context of a specific end use or market;

e) communication, negotiation and working with others;

f) planning, researching, implementation and presentation of a body of work to a professional standard;

g) using a range of photographic equipment in a professional manner.
