Brief Description

8 week Twin school experience

A distinctive feature of the PGCE Secondary programme is the centrality of school based training. The module aims to provide trainees with the opportunity to develop the skills of preparation, implementation and reflection within a secondary school context.  Central to the module aims is the provision of high quality training designed to support trainees demonstrating that they are working towards and meeting the TDA Standards for Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).

This module consists of a school placement in a different school setting. Trainees will have 11-13 hours of teaching timetable per week in their subject. Additionally, they will be involved in administrative procedures, pastoral and other school duties.

The placement will be complemented by two taught strands: Professional Preparation and Subject Pathway.

Indicative Syllabus

Whilst in school they are supported, monitored and assessed by their school training manager and subject mentor. Their Subject Leader will also visit twice a year to observe their teaching, scrutinise their files, discuss their progress with school staff and offer support and advice. Successful completion of this module indicates that students can demonstrate that they are satisfactorily working towards or able to meet the majority of QTS standards.

Also that they are able to sufficiently demonstrate professional attributes.

The QTS tracker will continue to be used as a tool to monitor assess progress towards the learning outcomes. In addition the Ofsted grade criteria for Initial Teacher Training will be introduced to trainees during this placement.
