Brief Description | 10 week Parent school experience A distinctive feature of the PGCE Secondary programme is the centrality of school based training. The module aims to provide trainees with the opportunity to develop the skills of preparation, implementation and reflection within a secondary school context. Central to the module aims is the provision of high quality training designed to support trainees demonstrating that they are working towards and meeting the TDA Standards for Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). This module consists of an induction period within which PGS401a will be completed. Post-induction trainees will have 9-11 hours of teaching timetable per week in their subject and an additional 1 hour of SEN support. Additionally, they will be involved in administrative procedures, pastoral and other school duties. The placement will be complemented by two taught strands: Professional Preparation and Subject Pathway. |
Indicative Syllabus | Whilst in school they are supported, monitored and assessed by their school training manager and subject mentor. Their Subject Leader will also visit twice a year to observe their teaching, scrutinise their files, discuss their progress with school staff and offer support and advice. Successful completion of this module indicates that students can demonstrate that they are satisfactorily working towards or able to meet a good range of QTS standards. Also that they are able to sufficiently demonstrate professional attributes. The QTS tracker will used as a tool to monitor assess progress towards the learning outcomes |
