Brief Description This module aims to provide opportunities for students to enhance specific areas of their teaching skills drawing from their development from PGP302 and other PGP modules. Students will undertake a 3-week* School Experience placement. *Students taking Primary Languages as a non-core strength will undertake a 4-week School Experience placement in France or Spain.
Indicative Syllabus By reflecting upon progress during Placements 1 and 2, and through discussion with mentors and Link Tutors, students will set targets for Placement 3 which will enhance specific areas of their teaching skills; for example, the student may develop their subject strength, explore innovative teaching and learning approaches, gain experience of a different age phase, or focus on a specific area of the Standards. Through this process, students will be able to personalise their learning priorities; PGP305 is aimed at meeting individual needs. Whilst in school they will work with the class teacher, student mentor and Link Tutor in order to maximise opportunities for personal and professional development through enriching the learning experiences for all children.
Learning Outcomes

Knowledge and understanding

This module enables students to further develop their professional knowledge and understanding of the outcomes from PGP302 and to particularly focus upon:

1) the standards for Qualified Teacher Status set out in the revised standards for the recommendation for QTS (2007) through reflecting on and evaluating their practice and progress;
2) the impact of their teaching on the progress of all learners;
3) applying their knowledge and understanding of curriculum subjects in an innovative and developmental manner



Skills

This module enables students to further develop their professional skills from PGP302. In addition, they will be able to demonstrate:

1) an understanding the learning needs of individual children;
2) effective communication with the wider team in order to provide for the learning needs of all children;
3) planning high quality learning opportunities;
4) a range of higher order teaching and learning strategies.
