Brief Description | The module aims to begin the process of developing the student as a practitioner researcher and evaluator in counselling. Students will develop understanding of how research and evaluation contribute to the development of evidence-based counselling. The module aims to develop a critical awareness of research and evaluation methods and also skills in the appraisal of findings from research and evaluation studies. It should equip students, at their own level, to engage in evaluation and research in relation to counselling. |
Indicative Syllabus | Content will include: Ethical issues in counselling research and evaluation. Undertaking a literature review and literature critique. Key research and evaluation techniques. Planning, protocol design, data collection and analysis in evaluation and research. Preparing for dissertation. Writing up research and evaluation findings. Evidence-based approach to counselling. Integrating research into organisational culture and practice. NICE and NICE Guidelines. CORE-OM and other audit, assessment and outcome measures. Data for and approaches to reflection. Supervision. |
