Brief Description | The module aims to facilitate students in developing an appropriate holistic model of person in health and in distress. To this end, it aims to introduce students to a wide range of models of development, and of models of person which bear upon the diverse aspects of being human. The ways in which such models of development and of person may inform the understanding of psychopathology will also be considered. The module aims to develop the students’ capacity to critically evaluate these perspectives in relation to their historical and philosophical contexts and relevance to modern, postmodern and post-postmodern thinking. |
Indicative Syllabus | The module will include biological and evolutionary, phenomenological, existential, affective, cognitive, behavioural, contextual, psychodynamic, subjective, intersubjective, and transpersonal perspectives. Medical model and non-medical model comparisons will be central. |
