Brief Description

This module has its foundations in recent legislation and policies relating to crime in the environment, focussing on the spatial and temporal distribution of crime and theories and policies that stem from this approach. Students will be required to engage in active learning to explore, analyse and critically debate issues that embrace a wide range of risks, hazards and harms, including crimes against the environment and corporate crime.

Policy and practice in crime prevention and reduction

Learning Outcomes

A student passing this module should be able to:

  1. Examine the relevance of criminological work to policy issues at local and national levels
  2. Work with groups in conducting empirical research
  3. Demonstrate an understanding of the relationship between complex social problems and crime prevention and control
  4. Apply theoretical models to the analysis of issues in criminology
  5. Critically evaluate the efficacy of policies in reducing and preventing crime
