Brief Description

This module develops practical experience of the advanced functionality available in ArcGIS. It includes the opportunity for applied investigation of complex spatial analysis and visualisation, geospatial database management and transference of GPS and LiDAR survey

GPS data collection GPS processing: display and analysis Terrain modelling: raster vs vector Terrain and visibility analysisArcGIS; professional presentation Remote sensing data acquisition Database creation and symbology GIS applications

Learning Outcomes

A student passing this module should be able to:

1. Appreciate the wider context of geographical information science

2. Critically evaluate the relative importance of and integrate material from a variety of sources, including digital and field-based data

3. Plan an integrated technological approach to a spatial investigation with topical relevance in an appropriate discipline

4. Use and critically evaluate GIS packages

5. Solve problems within a GIS setting
