Brief Description | This module is an opportunity for students to carry out an independent, empirical study on a negotiated topic. Building on prior research experience, students are expected to initiate, design, conduct and report, a substantial research project under supervision. Students must also demonstrate awareness of ethical principles and approval procedures in relation to the particular piece of research. Qualitative and/or quantitative methods of data collection and analysis may be utilised. The study will normally involve the collection of original empirical data from participants. |
Indicative Syllabus | Students will be allocated a supervisor with experience in the area of interest or methodological approach and an agreed title for the investigation will be formulated. Students will:
Undertake a literature review on the focal topic. Plan the research design (including consideration of ethical issues). Communicate this via a short presentation. Undertake the investigation. Write the study up as a research report to professional standards. |
