Brief Description | This module expands on NS4101, to consider conceptual and methodological aspects of theory development in psychology. The module introduces a range of theoretical approaches in psychology, considering the principles and assumptions underpinning each approach. Key theories are introduced and evaluated, and research exercises show the approaches in practice. The module examines the role of evidence in developing and supporting theories, and introduces a range of analysis techniques that are used in developing psychological theory. |
Indicative Syllabus | Approaches to psychology - neuroscience, cognitivism, social constructionism, and trait approaches Assumptions, methods, key theories and classic studies in each approach Evaluating and comparing approaches Data distributions and hypothesis testing Non-parametric statistical tests of difference and association Qualitative analysis |
