Brief Description |
This is a substantially theoretical investigation into the operation of various network components with particular emphasis on the mechanisms of a range of protocols. |
Indicative Syllabus |
This module considers: (1) the design of networks that connect mobile devices (mobile telephones, mobile computers and portable games), and (2) the analysis of network traffic (wired and wireless) and storage media (cards, disks) for evidence of misuse. |
Learning Outcomes |
i. Knowledge and understanding By the end of this module, students should be able to: a) evaluate the issues relating to the construction of networking facilities; b) evaluate through case studies reasons for network failures and identify their possible solutions. c) assess why certain solutions have been adopted and critically evaluate these solutions suggesting alternatives or modification. d) assess the methods of analysing network storage media and network traffice for evidence of misuse. e) evaluate the important properties of successful wireless network designs.
ii.. Skills On successfully completing the module students will have developed: Communication and Literacy. The assignment will involve the description of evidence of possible network misuse. Problem Solving. The assignment will require students to investigate possible network misuse, hunting for clues and following leads. Independent Learning and Working with others. The students will need to work independently throughout this module. Information and Communications Technology and Specific Vocational Skills. The assignment will involve the use of standard tools for the analysis of network storage media and traffic. |
