Brief Description

This module develops those generic transferable and study skills required to facilitate students' successful progression through their levels of study and into their careers and marketers as business people. This module will help students discover how a manager can learn, develop, work with others, and share what they know.

Indicative Syllabus
  1. Writing skills: developing effective arguments and writing in a structured way in reports, essays and reflective papers
  2. Researching and referencing properly for essays  and reports, using Harvard Referencing
  3. Critiquing reference material:  critically analyzing sources such as books, journals, and case studies.
  4. Group work:  via marketing project -- working effectively with others; making a contribution; and supporting others. 
  5. Reflecting on learning achieved and strengths & weaknesses which need to be addressed.
  6. Presentation skills: giving informal and formal presentations to managers    

 

Learning Outcomes

A student passing this module should be able to:

  1.  Think logically, critically and reflectively. 
  2. Work independently and effectively with others, in a professional manner.
  3. Communicate effectively in writing and through presentations.
  4. Critically evaluate personal development goals and achievements.
  5.  Improve skills such as: Communications and literacy;Analysis and problem solving; Independent learning and group work; Information and Communications Technology.
  6. Understand the personal & organisational value of thinking laterally & creatively.
