Brief Description

This module provides students a critical and in depth understanding of the concept of entrepreneurship and how it operates in the creative industries. Particular emphasis is placed upon how creativity and entrepreneurial activity can be combined in a business plan.

Indicative Syllabus

In this module, students will engage in a critical analysis of how entrepreneurship manifests itself in the creative industries. Analytical focus will be directed at the significance of creativity and innovation in the creative industries and how entrepreneurship facilitates the creation of commercial value. Students will also analyse the place of entrepreneurship in industry formation and the distinct labour markets manifested in the creative industries. They will use this knowledge toward the production of a business plan.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of the module students should be able to:

i. produce a viable business plan
ii. demonstrate entrepreneurial skills through the opportunity recognition process
iii. analyse the relevant business context in relation to a critical understanding of the creative industries
iv. demonstrate product/service differentiation through the ability to link innovation to viable commercial projects
v. present a business idea in a concise and compelling manner

002: 60% Coursework: Business Plan Portfolio: 2700 words or equivalent
