Brief Description

This year long practical single module is designed to allow level III students to undertake 'commissioned' work and experience the process of making films following established professional guidelines.

Indicative Syllabus

The module requires students to reflect on the restrictions of working within commercial constraints by making 'commissioned' films. They will undertake two different projects in which they have to work to a fixed brief in terms of length, content, means of distribution. They will undertake a film per semester, one of which will be a client based commercial brief and the other in response to a call for submissions from a short film festival strand (e.g. DEPICT at Brief Encounters).

Learning Outcomes

A student passing this module should be able to:

  2. Work to a given brief
  3. Appreciate and respond to the constraints inherent in working with an outside client
