Brief Description

This module will allow students to either take the role of performer or promoter in the successful undertaking of a live event.

Indicative Syllabus

Live music and performance are one of the principal sites of consumption and promotion in the music industry. Intrinsic to the success of a Live Event is the symbiotic relationship between performance and the management of a live experience. As performance and promotion are mutually dependent, students will be expected to have a theoretical understanding of marketing, branding, sound reinforcement, stagecraft, merchandise, budget control and the timing of a scheduled event. However, they will only be expected to demonstrate practical expertise in EITHER performance OR management of a live event.

Students will be expected to raise any budget required for this event to be run, but this MUST NOT EXCEED £300. The budget will be used for all promotional materials, ticketing, booking fees for musicians, and for P.A. and venue hire. Students will be expected to negotiate independently any contracts that are required for these tasks. The course team, taking into account issues of health and safety and exercising a duty of care to students, will approve local venues for the event.
