Brief Description p>This module will draw together several elements of the course into a major final year project, in which a record label is created and original material marketed to a range of potential consumers. Students will work in groups to source original material which their record label will package, distribute and market online. They will also manage those professional and legal processes relevant to the task, to include establishing ownership of copyright.

Indicative Syllabus

This module will draw on the students project management skills and their ability to work across creative and professional contexts. It will focus attention on sourcing and marketing a recorded music product to the point of sale. As a result students will be expected to take roles in the production and mediation process and work to tight deadlines through the year to ensure completion of the project. The role of all intermediaries in the A&R, legal, promotional and retail processes will need to be considered throughout, and the nature of the label's identity, genre, branding and originality fully expressed.

Learning Outcomes

A student passing this module should be able to

  1. Produce or source recordings to a professional standard suitable for release, taking into account the A&R relationship between artist, label and market
  2. Design and put into action a branding strategy, marketing, e-marketing and promotion plan accounting for the needs of audiences and the creative industries
  3. Give evidence of copyright ownership in both songwriting and song recordings .
  4. Manage relevant data, including financing and budgeting, market information, website data and sales figures
  5. Develop a plan for evaluating the project's success

Demonstrate effective management skills in a large, complex project and express a range of skills and interests.
