Brief Description

This module builds on the design and software knowledge the students have gained in CRM103, Web Design (1). It introduces web standards, the relevance of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) and explores the importance of Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) and accessibility.

The students will work in small groups to produce a simple local website based application requiring interactive, animated or short video elements. The aim is to combine basic design skills with more advanced content in order to produce a site for a specific target audience.

More emphasis is placed on the planning process and the production of student's own visual and written content for the web. A record of the development of the site will be presented in a folder, demonstrating research, planning and visualisation, as well as an evaluation of the completed project.

Indicative Syllabus

Students are introduced to CSS coding and the separation of style from content; writing for the web in comparison to print; information architecture and the planning process, including online publishing and individual project roles. They will produce a site that expands their existing skills and knowledge of web design and combines functionality with creativity.
