Brief Description

This module builds on the knowledge and experience gained in MD4802. Students are also introduced to the workings of a television studio/multicamera shoot. The final production, a "live" studio programme with pre-recorded single camera inserts, will test their skills both in the studio and in single camera work.

Indicative Syllabus

This module will allow students to gain a sound knowledge of the processes and skills involved in a studio based TV programme. Working in small groups you will all be involved in the necessary research and pre production planning. During the production process you will experience a variety of the key roles from floor manager to studio director and through this begin to understand and build the commitment, both to the programme and to the team, which is an essential component of TV studio production. Through the pre-recorded inserts, this module will also allow you to develop the skills in single camera production that they acquired in TVP 102

Learning Outcomes

A student passing this module should be able to:

  1. Understand and evaluate the roles and responsibilities of the personnel involved in making a studio based programme
  2. Understand and evaluate the team co-ordination needed for the successful outcome of a "live “studio TV production.
  3. Appreciate and observe all health and safety guidelines in a TV studio
  4. Understand the need for and requirements of studio scripts
  5. Demonstrate acquaintance and knowledge of 3 machine linear editing suite.
  6. Demonstrate increased single camera production expertise in producing the VT inserts for the studio programme.
  7. Produce a competent multi camera script.
