Brief Description

The module aims to provide students with the creative, organisational and technical skills to produce high quality radio drama.

 

Indicative Syllabus

This module will begin with a short series of introductory lectures and seminars exploring the range of creative techniques used during and post-production to create engaging drama for the radio. Students will be directed towards a range of texts and indicative examples for further independent study. Forming into small production teams students will participate in the process of selecting scripts written by Level 5 Creative Writing students to go into production. Supported through ongoing tutorials and production meetings, each team will take responsibility for arranging copyright clearance, managing necessary rewrites, engaging performers, and the production of a short radio drama of a high technical standard.

Learning Outcomes

A student passing this module should be able to:

 

1) Use appropriate recording and post production techniques to produce a radio drama to high technical and creative standards

2) Demonstrate a critical appreciation of the range of approaches possible in radio drama recording and production

3) Critically evaluate radio drama scripts

4) Work effectively with specialist practitioners from other disciplines including the casting & direction of performers

5) Employ effective production management techniques
