Brief Description

Building on the experiences gained in MD4303, students will look deeper into the art of songwriting and performance. Students will be taught practical and theoretical skills of writing, arrangement, interpretation and performance

Indicative Syllabus

This module will cover topline writing, drafting/rewriting, arrangement and interpretation. Students will be instructed to realise their own original  compositions as texts, and will learn key performance skills in the persuasive and efficient delivery of societal, emotional or political narratives. The module will introduce writing skills needed for MD6302: Applied Studio Practice and performance skills needed for MD6303: The Live Event.

Learning Outcomes

A student passing this module should be able to:

 

  1. Develop successful song structures and arrangements
  2. Build effective melodic, harmonic and rhythmic components
  3. Perform original compositions in front of live audiences
  4. Manipulate and critically evaluate the  multiple components of an individual song
  5. Arrange and edit material to a identified finished point.
