Brief Description

Based on the production experiences gained at level one, students will undertake set series of live production tasks that will utilise their technical skills, compositional skills and musical abilities in a professional context. Students will record and reflect their own songs/compositions as well as produce music from a professional brief.

Indicative Syllabus

The module will set students production task, for example, individually derived song, on which they can explore their own creative direction as well as being expected to write, produce, mix, edit and master a series of audio/musical pieces to be used, for example, in theatre, film, television and radio. This will include research that explores appropriate instrumentation and audio constraints based on the contextual elements of the brief (historical, emotive, technological, societal etc.)Students are expected to incorporate real sounds and instruments, and the successful recording, producing and mastering of the same in the final soundtrack.

Learning Outcomes

A student passing this module should be able to:...

 

  1. Produce a final soundtrack successfully blending real instrumentation, audio and sound elements alongside electronic ones
  2. Demonstrate advanced production methods in Logic: Gating, Bussing, Aux tracks and FX processing
  3. Demonstrate advanced production methods: Side-chaining, parallel & series compression, intentional overdrive/distortion/saturation of signal,
  4. Record a full band in the Pro Tools HD environment
  5. Use the studio environment to replicate and simulate recording techniques in a historical context.
  6. Undertake the different roles in the studio (producer/engineer/performer/composer) and will have demonstrated these roles practically.

7.     Professionally attend studio sessions where specific musical skills are required for group work.
