Brief Description | The module will examine celebrity journalism and consider what part the media plays in encouraging people to consume fame. Students will analyse how celebrity/entertainment news challenges conventional news values and will explore the relationship between the media and publicists. |
Indicative Syllabus | The theory and practice of celebrity journalism across multimedia platforms; issues of identity, social comparison and consumption in audiences; perceptions of symbiosis between the media and celebrity publicists; mediated celebrity status and its impact on cultural norms; control and constraints in celebrity journalism; media ethics and privacy regulation. |
