Brief Description | This module considers the importance of journalism in democracy and the political process and the importance of politics in all forms of reporting. To this end, the module considers the political groups, organisations, structures and responsibilities of local government in the UK and international organisations |
Indicative Syllabus | This module will be delivered in lectures and seminars. The course will evaluate the operation of different levels of government affecting the UK. Students will be enabled to evaluate, investigate and report on the political decision-making process and build on their awareness of the significance of politics in all forms of journalism. |
Learning Outcomes | A student passing this module should be able to: 1. Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of the political processes at local, national and European level 2. Demonstrate an in-depth knowledge to enable them to communicate information, ideas, problems and solutions in a variety of ways to a variety of audiences 3. Demonstrate a greater understanding of how to structure a theoretically informed political argument, illustrate this with effective textual examples and evaluate conflicting ideas. 4. Demonstrate a broad understanding of the concepts, information, practical competencies and techniques relevant to the topic 5. Demonstrate a greater awareness of the cultural and professional contexts of reporting politics and how to communicate this in an informed and coherent analysis. Contribute to group discussions and to critically evaluate the contributions of colleagues |
