Brief Description | This module focuses on the creative and practical processes of producing a feature documentary for radio.

Indicative Syllabus | Lectures and workshops will introduce students to the range of creative possibilities of the short radio feature documentary. Students will be taught how to develop content ideas, and how to present and plan productions through the different stages of offer, tendering, and submission for broadcast. Exercises will enable students to explore how a range of approaches can be deployed to communicate an idea; the relationship between the technical, creative and administrative aspects of production; and how to respond to a brief, before beginning work on the production of their own feature documentary. |
Learning Outcomes | A student passing this module should be able to:
1) Identify how a variety of approaches to sound and speech can be used in radio feature documentary production 2) Produce written proposals for specific briefs for the various stages of the commissioning process 3) Evidence understanding of the production process and its management 4) Produce original short radio feature documentaries using an appropriate range of sound elements and production techniques |
