Brief Description

This module will introduce you to the particular demands of writing, researching & voicing for radio. You will learn the roles of scripting in both recorded & live radio, and how to write & structure for differing genres, formats and audiences.

Indicative Syllabus

This module will be delivered in seminars and workshops, with students undertaking regular practical writing, research and voicing exercises contributing to a portfolio of work. You will learn how research is used to produce clear and engaging radio material. You will learn how to employ a range of different approaches to the structuring and treatment of radio output. You will practice the less formal, verbal style of writing for broadcasting and explore how to communicate succinctly and accurately with the spoken word. There will be exercises in voicing scripts with emphasis on the relationship between the written script and its practical vocal delivery.

Learning Outcomes

A student passing this module should be able to:

 

1) Write, amend, annotate and voice scripts for radio

2) Interpret and perform research tasks for a range of content briefs

3) Evidence and apply an understanding of how station style influences the selection, scripting and presentation of content
