Brief Description | This module explores the synergistic relationships that have developed historically between popular music and other media industries. It investigates the economic and cultural functions of music and the media and examines the changes to these functions with the recent emergence of multi-media conglomerates. |
Indicative Syllabus | Popular music has been historically interconnected with a range of media: radio, records, radio, film, television, computer games and, most recently, the internet. This module will focus upon the economic and cultural functions of popular music through different media forms and shifting market relations. In addition, the module will study the emergence of multi-media conglomerates and their impact upon the production and consumption of popular music. |
