Brief Description | This module is concerned with the historical, social and ideological contexts within which popular music forms have emerged in the twentieth century. |
Indicative Syllabus | The module allows for students to explore particular musical genres in depth. It highlights the key historical, economic and cultural contexts within which genres such as rock, soul, 'dance' and hip-hop have developed, and traces key discourses surrounding those forms including the concepts of musical roots and authenticity. Academic writing and referencing skills will be covered in the module. |
