Brief Description

Students will develop essential skills for the production of a music video and web video product, developing screen and sound skills and techniques, they will cover the necessary elements of camerawork, such as focus, exposure and white-balance and an understanding of depth of field. They will learn about the use of a microphone for film purposes.  Through practical workshops they will develop directing, shooting and editing skills and experience the making of a high quality music video product.

Indicative Syllabus

Working in teams, students will be involve in researching, planning and putting together two products and will go through the appropriate processes.

Appropriate paperwork

Story boarding

Creative use of the camera and shooting

Synch. Filming

Use of microphone

Editing

Post production

The module will cover product export and formatting for appropriate presentation.

Learning Outcomes

A student passing this module should be able to:

  1. Understand the need for basic pre-production planning and the use of call-sheets, Risk Assessments and release forms
  2. Understand the necessary technical theory involved with camera-work?
  3. Understand the theories associated with image-framing and ‘construction’
  4. Use skills gained through the module to produce promotional music videos
  5. Demonstrate current understanding of aesthetics of short film making
  6. Critically evaluate a short video film
