Brief Description | This module will introduce students to the different styles of writing for journalists. They will learn to write clear, balanced and vigorous reports suitable for print, on-line, radio and TV. Students will also learn to ‘voice’ reports for broadcast. |
Indicative Syllabus | This module will be delivered in seminars and workshops, with students undertaking weekly, practical writing exercises in the classroom before being sent out to find and write up their own stories. They will learn how to communicate succinctly and accurately, exploring the differences in the use of the written and spoken word for a wide range of journalistic markets. Students will also learn the importance of complementing their broadcast scripts with sound and pictures. Sessions will be held to develop a ‘natural’ and confident broadcast voice in the radio and TV studios. Students will be encouraged to develop their critical and evaluative skills in the production of their own and colleagues’ copy, scripts and voice work. |
