Brief Description

This video module builds on the knowledge and experience gained in MCC127, culminating in a short programme. Students are introduced to theoretical approaches to shooting and editing which underpin professional video production culminating in the production of a short piece which should also have some basis in core film and/or media theory.

Indicative Syllabus

Students will have the opportunity to develop further their screen production techniques gained in MCC127 by producing a more substantive practical piece practical work.  Students will be involved in researching programme planning, and will assume the roles of all members of the production team, building up commitment both to the project and to each other. Students will be expected to relate their practical projects to relevant film and media theory.

Learning Outcomes

i. Knowledge and Understanding
By the end of the module students should be able to demonstrate that they:
a) understand and appreciate the roles and responsibilities of the personnel involved in making a screen production
b) appreciate the teamwork and co-ordination required to produce a screen production
c) appreciate fully the need to observe health and safety guidelines in the studio
d) understand the need for and the requirements of scripts and/or storyboards
e) have a working knowledge of Final Cut Express



ii. Skills
Students should be able to demonstrate a basic working knowledge of:
a) conversational edit styles
b) editing theory
c) level two single camera equipment

Learning and Teaching Activities

Staff/student contact: approx 20%
Independent Study: approx 80%
