Brief Description | This module builds on knowledge and skills developed in LW4004 in enabling students to research, obtain and undertake a vacation placement or mini-pupillage. |
Indicative Syllabus | Personal skills audits, letters of application and on line applications, interview skills, professional ethics, reflective learning. Students will undertake a minimum two week placement in a law firm, law centre, company legal department, voluntary organisation (e.g. CAB) or legal agency (e.g. CPS or PDS)or a mini-pupillage or an internship in a business or voluntary organisation. |
Learning Outcomes | A student passing this module should be able to: 1. demonstrate a sound understanding of their personal abilities, attributes and skills as they relate to progression to employment in the legal profession, related employment or alternative employment (e.g. business or management) as identified by the student; 2. demonstrate a sound understanding of employment opportunities in the legal profession including City, Commercial and High street firms, legal agencies, City and Provincial chambers or in the student’s chosen profession or employment; 3. demonstrate a sound understanding of the skills required to work in a variety of contexts and of professional ethics as they relate to the chosen profession or employment ; 4. identify sources for careers research and establish a strategy for research; 5. analyse own strengths and development needs in relation to employment opportunities and construct a development plan |
