Brief Description This module provides students with an opportunity to conduct a piece of literature based research in a legal context.
Indicative Syllabus Students will select a title from a range that will be made available; the titles will provide scope for students to independently research, evaluate and form a critical judgement on current legal topics.
Learning Outcomes

i. Knowledge and Understanding

By the end of the module, students should be able to:
a) demonstrate a comprehensive and accurate knowledge and understanding of the law in relation to the title selected
b) demonstrate a sound knowledge and critical understanding of any issues of social policy, economic or other wider context relevant to the title selected



ii. Skills

By the end of the module students should have developed skills in:
a) Sources and research — able to identify sources appropriate to the title selected and establish a strategy for research
b) Evaluation and critical judgement — able to form a critical judgement on areas of difficulty or uncertainty in relation to the title selected

c) Autonomy — able to demonstrate a capacity for self directed study

d) Communication and literacy — able to write fluent and complex prose accurately and fluently, using legal terminology correctly
e) Other key skills - IT — able to use electronic sources for research and to present an accurately word processed text
