Brief Description This module focuses on the skills of negotiation and legal drafting.
Indicative Syllabus The techniques and practice of negotiation, including preparation for negotiation, identifying the parameters within which one is authorised to negotiate and recording the outcome of negotiation; the principles and practice of legal drafting, including in particular contracts and other forms of legal agreement.
Learning Outcomes i. i. Knowledge and Understanding
By the end of this module students should be able to:
a)Demonstrate a sound understanding of the techniques, practice and benefits of negotiation as a method of achieving a client’s objectives
b)Demonstrate a sound understanding of the principles of legal drafting

ii. Skills
By the end of this module students should have developed skills in:
a)Analysis, evaluation, critical judgment and synthesis Able to analyse a complex fact pattern to identify the factual and legal issues which need to be addressed within a negotiation and the parameters within which they are authorised to negotiate Able to analyse a complex fact pattern to identify the factual and legal issues which need to be incorporated in a legal agreement
b)Communication and literacy Able to conduct a straightforward oral negotiation; including presenting their negotiating position clearly, effectively and persuasively and responding appropriately to the opponent’s position Able to draft simple legal agreements which accurately address all the relevant legal and factual issues, meet the client’s goals and are grammatically correct in their drafting.
