Brief Description This module focuses on the skills of client interviewing and legal writing.
Indicative Syllabus The techniques and practice of client interviewing, including questioning techniques, recording information and giving advice; the principles and practice of legal writing, particularly letters of advice, letters of claim, memoranda and reports.
Learning Outcomes

i. Knowledge and Understanding

By the end of this module students should be able to:
a) Demonstrate an understanding of the techniques and practice of client interviewing
b) Demonstrate an understanding of the principles of legal writing



ii. Skills

By the end of this module students should have developed skills in:

a) Application and problem solving
Able to apply legal knowledge to problems presented by clients and generate solutions to the clients' problems

b) Communication and literacy
Able to communicate orally by gathering information from clients, thus identifying the client’s goals and advising orally on appropriate course(s) of action to enable the client to achieve those goals; explaining legal terminology and concepts in an appropriate manner to a non-lawyer.
Able to prepare letters, memoranda and reports which present legal content in a manner which is accurate, presented in a manner appropriate to the intended audience and grammatically correct
