Brief Description

This module provides students with the opportunity to identify and examine critically key contemporary issues that are pertinent to professional practice with children at play. It introduces students to key concepts in epistemology and argument. Students will be expected to draw on this and the knowledge and skills they have gained earlier in the course andthrough other experiential learning as they debate important issues within professional practice.

Indicative Syllabus

The module introduces approaches to critical thinking, epistemology, argument and analysis and interpretation of research. Following on from this, students work together to identify and critique contemporary issues in professional practice.

Learning Outcomes

A student passing this module should be able to:

  1.  identify and evaluate critically contemporary issues within professional practice;
  2.  analyse and critique the research of others;
  3. communicate effectively reasoned argument on important issues related to professional practice through various media such as discussion, presentation and debate;
  4. reflect on the implications of the research for professional practice.
