Brief Description | This module examines a range of issues which are of both contemporary relevance and critical importance to the success or failure of tourism organisations. Students will develop the necessary skills to identify, research, and evaluate these issues and their implications for the effective development of tourism. |
Indicative Syllabus | The module will include: an introduction to appropriate analytical tools for forecasting, modelling and scenario planning in relation to participation, provision and the wider issues facing the sports manager in a variety of contexts. Students will be encouraged to identify, research and debate contemporary issues in such areas as tourism supply and demand, niche tourism markets, politics and tourism, volunteers, events and tourism, and crisis management. An emphasis will be placed on both current observable issues and foreseeable scenarios which may be of critical importance to thetourism manager of the future. Application of this knowledge to understand and explain the success or failure of tourism organisations will be an on-going theme throughout. |
