Brief Description | The importance of this module arises from the dynamic political and social contexts within which leisure, tourism and sport take place. The activities and decisions of participants, providers and policymakers take place not in isolation but, to a greater or lesser extent, within a wider strategic and policy framework. The module is designed to promote the analytical skills and critical understanding needed to appraise external policies and strategies affecting the provider. Armed with this understanding, the manager will be able to assess threats and opportunities presented by external policy and strategy developments, and formulate an appropriate response. |
Indicative Syllabus | The module explores the governance frameworks created by institutions within and beyond the UK in respect of leisure, tourism and sport, and the tools available to managers for analysing their policy and strategy outputs. The influence of wider public policy agendas and the dynamic nature of the political and social environments on provision for leisure, tourism and sport are explored, along with approaches to enhancing effective planning and provision for participation in these activities. |
