Brief Description

This module provides a complex and challenging opportunity for students to bring together knowledge and skills developed during their studies in a focussed module which deals with real world applications of such learning.

The module begins with an overview of strategic management principles, theory and analytical frameworks, with application to the range of events, hospitality, sport and tourism industries to consider how organisations can manage their resources and competition, to achieve long run competitive advantage.

With this framework in mind, the module then addresses the new product development process (NPD) including concept/idea generation, market research and evaluation methods and the commercialisation process. Methods to assess the market potential for new products including product positioning, testing, test marketing, and NPD launch are studied. Assessment through the development of a business plan facilitates students to integrate learning and to draw upon many concepts learnt over the past three levels of study.
