Brief Description

This module provides the student with the opportunity to undertake a self-managed, evaluative piece of research, where they will conduct a desk study- type academic investigation or consultancy project related to their course context.

Indicative Syllabus

The content of this module will be related to a topical issue within the student’s course context. It will provide scope for the student to demonstrate their ability to learn independently, research, analyse, synthesise and evaluate appropriate published material.

Learning Outcomes

A student passing this module should be able to, in the context of their course:

  1. define and justify critically an appropriate research problem to investigate;
  2. evaluate critically data and information from published material, relevant to the research problem;
  3. synthesise ideas and findings into conclusions appropriate to the research problem.
  4. reflect critically on their learning in the research process.
