Brief Description

This module develops a critical appreciation of the nature and role of experiential learning and reflection for continuous professionaldevelopment. It will draw on themes and ideas with the area of reflective practice and will provide a deeper consideration of the application of theories and principles relevant to the place of work. The module will consider the nature of work-based learning as relational processes and explore a range of methods to support reflective practice and using experience for learning in individual and group contexts.

Indicative Syllabus

Students will study the concept of workplace learning and continuing professional development (CPD), using theory, frameworks and models to critically analyse practice and continue to develop as reflective practitioners.The module will provide a critical exploration of professional development in the workplace to include: situated learning; the significance of relational processes in supporting work-based learning and reflective practice; methods to support learning in relational processes; critical exploration of continuous professional development and lifelong learning; applying concepts into practice; action planning for future learning and continuous professional development; and supporting and mentoring colleagues

Learning Outcomes

A student passing this module should be able to:

  1. Critically appraise the relationship between practice, reflection and learning;
  2. Appreciate the importance of developing effective relational processes to support reflective practice in the workplace;
  3. Apply methods to enable a reflective and analytical approach to their work practices;
  4. Reflect on professional practice and the practice of others to develop their own practice wisdom
